Growing Marijuana Indoors and Hydroponics

Learning how to grow marijuana indoors is what weed growers are doing since doing it can provide with the freedom to control your own growth. You’ll have full control of your marijuana grow environment – lights, soil, nutrients, etc. However, indoor growing has greater risks than growing cannabis outdoors. The advantage is that you will be harvesting a very potent marijuana strain without being dependent on the season of the outdoor environment.

Since the environment inside can easily be controlled, growing marijuana indoors gives every grower the great opportunity of getting a high yield of big, frosty and potent buds. Genetics has a big influence on the amount of yield and THC content of the buds. Aside from genetics, environmental factors and the amount of water, light, and nutrients that cannabis plants are receiving are added elements that will influence the success of any weed growing activity done indoors.

Cultivate pot using a hydroponic set-up for an earlier harvest time

Given with marijuana seeds having the same genetics, growing cannabis in hydroponics will allow the plants to grow faster compared to soil growing indoors or outdoors. Marijuana plants take lesser time in hydroponics because roots can breathe easier and it can directly access nutrients and oxygen. When you cultivate marijuana hydroponically, there is no tendency for the plants to become root-bound because they are grown using a soilless medium.

How to Grow Weed in Hydroponics

If you are new to weed cultivation and you are still thinking about how to grow cannabis indoors, consider the hydroponic system using the EBB and Flow system which uses Rockwool as a medium.

The EBB and Flow system are simple and easy to use hydroponic weed growing method. This type of hydroponic method is preferred by many because of its low maintenance but high productivity.  Rockwool is the common medium used because of its strong water-holding capacity. A large tray is used to contain the medium and the weed plants and below the tray is the nutrient solution contained in a reservoir located near a water source.

The growing tray is filled with a hydroponic nutrient solution supplied by a small pump with a timer that shuts off and on to water and feeds the marijuana plants with nutrients. As the timer switches off, the hydroponic nutrient solution automatically drains back to the nutrient solution reservoir.

Another method used to grow cannabis in hydroponics is the wick system wherein the wicks are cut and place in pots. Compared to the reservoir system, the wick method requires more work and the grower needs to ensure that correct holes are cut in the pots.

When you grow pot inside, the ideal grow room humidity should be 47%-57% during the vegetative period and not more than 50% humidity level during the flowering phase. Too much humidity can allow the molds to thrive in and invite the growth of other harmful microorganisms that can damage your weed plants.

In hydroponic growing, growers should keep an eye on the marijuana plants to make sure that the tray or pan is not dry to prevent root damage. If a reservoir is used, rinse the Rockwool medium every month to avoid building up of salts. Regularly test the pH of the nutrient solution. Change the solution if the pH is acidic because of the cationic exchange. In growing cannabis indoors, using 2 plant foods is also highly recommended during the vegetative and flowering stages to avoid plant nutrient deficiency that can affect the growth of weed plants.
